Complete Guide: How to Use QR Codes in Everyday Life
The QR Code is no longer a technological novelty to become part of the routine of payments, customer service, and connectivity in Brazil. Small merchants use it to receive Pix on the spot, restaurants display digital menus, and accommodations share Wi-Fi without needing to write down a password on a piece of paper. Below, we explain how each type of QR Code works in practice and how to make the most of each one in your daily life or your business.
How does the Pix QR Code work?
The Pix QR Code is a visual representation of a "BR Code", the standard created by the Central Bank for instant payments. When generating the code in the "Pix" tab, the tool builds a structured payload containing the provided Pix key — CPF, CNPJ, e-mail, phone number, or random key —, the receiver's name and the city registered in the bank, plus a verification code (CRC16) that guarantees data integrity. These first three fields are mandatory in the official standard and appear, even if summarized, on the confirmation screen of the payer's banking app.
If the value is already known at the time of collection, fill in the "Amount" field to generate a QR Code with a fixed amount. Leave it blank so that the payer can type the amount at the time of the transfer. The "Identifier" field is used to organize charges — for example, an order number — and can remain as "***" when there is no need for individual tracking. By default, the generated Pix QR Code is of the static type, meaning it does not expire and can be reused indefinitely.
How to read a Wi-Fi QR Code?
A Wi-Fi QR Code eliminates the need to dictate the network password letter by letter to each visitor. Just point your cell phone camera at the code: the device automatically recognizes the pattern WIFI:T:...;S:...;P:...;; and suggests an immediate connection to the network, automatically filling in the name and password. To generate yours, inform the exact network name (SSID), the password, and the type of security used — usually WPA/WPA2 on current routers. If the network does not require a password, select "No password"; check "Hidden network" only if the SSID is not broadcasted publicly by the router.
This type of QR Code is widely used in coffee shops, clinics, coworking spaces, and vacation rentals, usually printed on a small poster near the counter or on a welcome card for guests, avoiding typing errors and saving customer service time.
QR Code for WhatsApp: faster customer service
A WhatsApp QR Code directly opens a conversation with a specific number, optionally with a suggested initial message. It is a solution used by physical stores, service providers, and event organizers to direct customers to support without having to manually save the contact in the phonebook. Simply enter the full number, with country and area code (for example, 55 for Brazil), and, optionally, write a message that will be automatically filled in as soon as the application is opened.
How to customize and export your QR Code?
After filling in the data, the preview is automatically updated on the right. You can adjust the color of the dots and the background color, as well as add a centralized logo to reinforce the brand's visual identity. When the result is as desired, use the "Download PNG" button for a pixel image ready for digital use, or "Download SVG" for a vector file that can be enlarged for large prints, such as banners and posters, without losing quality.
Where to use a QR Code in your business?
Besides payment via Pix, the QR Code can be applied in various touchpoints with the customer: on a restaurant table to open the digital menu, on a product packaging to direct to a review page, on an event badge to quickly exchange WhatsApp contacts, or at the entrance of an establishment to share Wi-Fi with customers. Because the code can be exported in high resolution (SVG), it works well both on screens and printed materials, such as stickers, menus, and banners.
